SHEM is not a co-op. Instead, SHEM exists to minister to homeschooling families in the Ozarks and surrounding areas by sponsoring various activities, such as those listed on the website; to work in a cooperative manner with other homeschooling organizations which promote benefits for, and freedom to home educate; and to inform the public of current laws relating to home education.

Joyful Learning Homeschool Co-op is an eclectic homeschool preschool co-op group for families intending to homeschool and have at least one child in the 2-5 year old age range. The purpose of this co-op is to model and provide an example, guidance, acceptance, non-judgment, support, enrichment, and educational opportunities to the children and families within the co-op. It serves to provide a loving, caring, and accepting place of learning and playing for our children, any siblings, and all parents. To achieve and meet our co-ops purpose, all members are expected to read, initial, and abide by the groups guidelines and rules.

Our co-op currently meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30AM (unless otherwise posted or planned). The subjects that are covered each month include: Science, Art, Math, Language Arts (Writing/Reading/Book Studies), Social Studies, P.E., Music, and Cooking. We also do play dates, Mom nights out, field trips, and holiday parties. Our co-op does a whole-group ‘circle-time’, which is a fun and great addition to each of the classes we have. In our co-op, parents help equally in a variety of ways, most often through teaching. Parents sign up to teach classes throughout the year, in a variety of the subjects. Our co-op offers teaching alone, or team-teaching. On average in this co-op, parents/teachers can expect to teach approximately one time per month, but may need to expect to teach more than one time/month, if need be. With this age range, teaching classes mainly consists of helping to plan, set up, and give instructions, as well as offer help for each specific subject/topic taught.

Members are required to pay an annual fee of $20 a school year, to help cover the costs of supplies needed throughout the year. We welcome all families who are interested, and encourage them to come to a class or an event so we can meet, and they can make sure the co-op is something that sounds like a good fit for them.

We are a secular homeschool co-op especially for children ages 4-7, in the Springfield, Missouri area.  Younger siblings are always welcome, but all class will be geared toward our target age range.  Every year that range will go up (i.e. 2016-2017 ages will be 5-8).  This is to ensure a cohesive group environment, consisting of children close in a ge, that can grow up together and create lifelong friendships.  There is no yearly fee or tuition (at this time) to join.  We want our group to be available to everyone, so we charge for events/classes on a case by case basis.  We meet Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:00AM, for about an hour each day.  Field trips are scheduled on Fridays.
